"The Katharyne" shown here at Eureka Springs Railroad, Depot in background.

Distinguished for a classic purity of line and refinement of decorative treatment, the private car Katharyne with no business car nonsense about it rests on a transfer table at Pullman with the venerable Pullman clock for background. (Above) The Katharyne was built in 1984 o the specifications of R.C. Kerens as his personal property and assigned as its home railroad to the West Virginia Central & Pittsburgh of which its owner was a director and important stockholder. Kerens was also a heavy investor in the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern, a vice president of St. Louis-Southwestern and finally was associated with Montana's peerless Senator William Andrews Clark in the incorporation of the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad, now the Los Angeles Division of the Union Pacific. Over all these far-flung interests Katharyne transported Kerens and his friends in expedition and comfort, sometime pausing at the four towns named for its owner in Texas, Arkansas, West Virginia and California, a geographic immortality accorded few other railroaders.
