Rebuilding of Railroad Trestle #78-7The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railroad Historical & Restoration Society is going to be undertaken the restoration of old Railroad Trestle #78-7. History of old Railroad Trestle #78-7: This Railroad Trestle #78-7 was built by The St. Louis and North Arkansas Railroad in 1900 for the extension to Harrison, Ark. The St. Louis & North Arkansas Railroad was later renamed to The Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad in 1906. This Railroad Trestle #78-7 is located just about 1 1/2 - 2 miles from The E.S. & N.A RR wye, and about 1 1/2 - 2 miles from The Old M. & N.A. RR Tunnel in the Livingston Hollow Valley near Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This Railroad Trestle #78-7 was rebuild in 1923 by The M. & N.A. RR, after a fire was set to it. This Railroad Trestle #78-7 was again rebuild in 1949-50 by the Arkansas & Ozarks Railroad. After The A. & O. RR pulled out in 1960's, This Railroad Trestle was left to rot apart. In 1970's - 1980's this Railroad Trestle was still all together, with accepting of some pieces has already falling off. This Railroad Trestle #78-7 is 238 feet long and about 57 - 67 feet high, and built of all wood. This old Railroad Trestle #78-7 is located on Private Property. This Private Property is located next to Silver Wing Field Airport located on county road 207 (also known as Onyx Cave road), Silver Wing Field Airport also house The Aviation Cadet Museum. The owner of this old Railroad Trestle has giving The E.S. & N.A. RR Historical & Restoration Society permission to rebuild this Trestle. Over the last 49+ years, after the last railroad ran over this trestle, this Trestle has been falling apart more and more. The E.S. & N.A. RR Historical & Restoration Society will be rebuilding this Railroad Trestle, after the clearing of trees and the brush is done. The E.S. & N.A. RR Historical & Restoration Society will be starting work on the clearing of brush & trees around the Railroad Trestle and the valley, where it is sitting in, in the late winter - early spring of 2009 and began to start the rebuilding of this Trestle when all brush & trees is clear. Clearing of The Old Railroad Trestle has started on Feb. 20, 2009. The E.S. & N.A. R.R. Historical & Restoration Society will return to the clearing of the Railroad Trestle during the fall & winter months of 2009-2010. This Project will take probably a couple of years to complete depending on the amount of money coming in for this project. The Estimate cost for this project is still unknown at this time.
